Ganesha Panchratnam

Sri Adi Shankaracharya

Ganesha Panchratnam is a celebrated stotra composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya, glorifying Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles and the embodiment of auspiciousness. Each verse is filled with rich imagery and heartfelt devotion, offering praise to Ganesha’s various attributes and inviting blessings of wisdom, prosperity, and success.

Verse 1

mudākarāttamodakam sadā vimuktisādhakam |
kalādharāvataṃsakam vilāsilokarakṣakam ||
anāyakaikanāyakam vināśitebhadaityakam |
natāśubhāśunāśakam namāmi taṃ vināyakam ||1||

I salute that Vinayaka who, with joy, holds a modaka (sweet) in His hand, always grants liberation, wears the crescent moon as an ornament, protects the playful world, is the sole leader of leaders, destroys the demons like the elephant demon, and quickly removes the inauspiciousness of those who bow to Him.

Verse 2

natetaratibhīkaram navoditārkabhāsvaram |
namatsurārinirjaram natādhikāpaduddharam ||
sureśvaram nidhīśvaram gajeśvaram gaṇeśvaram |
maheśvaram tamāśraye parātparam nirantaram ||2||

I seek refuge in that Supreme, endless Lord Ganesha, who is fearsome to the arrogant, radiant like the rising sun, the destroyer of enemies of the gods, the uplifter of those bowed down by difficulties, and who is the Lord of the gods, of wealth, of elephants, of the ganas, and of Shiva himself.

Verse 3

samastalokaśaṅkaraṃ nirasitadaityakuñjaram |
daretarodaraṃ varaṃ varebhavaktramakṣaram ||
kṛpākaraṃ kṣamākaraṃ mudākaraṃ yaśaskaram |
manaskaraṃ namaskṛtām namaskaromyahaṃ sadā ||3||

I forever bow to that Ganesha, who is the benefactor of all worlds, the destroyer of the elephant-like demon, whose large belly represents the universe, who is supreme, whose face resembles that of a great elephant, who is the source of compassion, forgiveness, joy, and fame, and who brings focus to the minds of devotees.

Verse 4

akiñcanārtimārjanaṃ cirantanoktipājanam |
purāripūrvanandanam surārigarvacarvaṇam ||
prapañcanāśabhīṣaṇam dhanañjayādibhūṣaṇam |
kapoladānavāraṇam bhaje purāṇavāraṇam ||4||

I worship that Ancient Elephant-faced Lord, the remover of the distress of the destitute, the recipient of ancient praises, the delight of Shiva, the crusher of the pride of the enemies of the gods, the fearful destroyer of the world’s delusions, the ornament of heroes like Arjuna, and the one who bestows wealth.

Verse 5

namajjanāṅkhabhaṅginaṃ smarārjaṃ maheśvaram |
tamekadantamevamaplutam cintayāmyaham ||5||

I contemplate that One-tusked Lord, the son of Shiva, the remover of obstacles, the destroyer of pride among the enemies of the gods, and the breaker of bonds for those who bow to Him.
